Asus is now teasing a gaming phone
Following the launch of the Razer Phone, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi jumped on the gaming smartphone brigade and launched the Black Shark gaming phone last week. Asus’ Global CEO has appeared to confirm that the company is working on a gaming smartphone.
According to a recent report from Astig.ph, Asus may also release its own gaming phone under its Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand. During a publication interview, Shen confirmed that a gaming phone can be “expected”, but revealed no further information regarding the timeline. The executives then spoke about the resonance of the Asus ROG among the gaming community, so we expect this phone will be part of the company’s signature gaming brand.
Over the last decade, ASUS established itself as a major eSports brand with the ROG (Republic of Gamers) and Strix line of PC gaming products. Thus, it is highly possible that the unnamed ASUS gaming smartphone may end up with the ROG badge, perhaps Zenfone ROG? It’s hard to see Asus announcing a new brand for gaming smartphones alone, as the ROG branding will help it amplify the marketing efforts.
Asus was expected to reveal a gaming smartphone at MWC 2018 in Barcelona earlier this year however it did not materialized. It will certainly be interesting to see what Asus can come up with to keep up with the growing competition.
