Google may rebrand its Android Wear
Android users have noticed that Google is referring Android Wear as “Wear OS” in the latest Android P Developer Preview. The company also replaced the usual watch-like logo with a distinctive “W”.
However, this does not necessarily represent that a formal name change is imminent. It could only happen by the time Android P is released, if not by the Google I/O conference in May. Currently, there is no explanation for the new rename.
Google ditches the name of Android wear, and use the Wear OS label so you can use Android Wear watches with iPhones. According to IDC, Android Wear was virtually non-existent among the top five wearable manufacturers in the fourth quarter of 2017. Google may hope that the new name change could reel in more buyers who previously thought they needed an Android phone to work with their smartwatches.
