Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 are getting Android Oreo
Samsung has named several devices that it plans to update to Android 8.0 Oreo, including the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. Now it looks like there may be a handful of additional devices getting updated to Oreo.
Samsung is committed to freshening up some of its old smartphone. It’s rare for any Android OEM to support a device for longer than two years. The company appears to be prepping Oreo for Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note 5. Those four phones which launched nearly three years ago will receive Android 8.0 Oreo updates.
T-Mobile has published support pages that say that the carrier and Samsung have agreed to support Android Oreo for the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, and Note5. We do not know whether other networks in the US and other territories will follow, but T-Mobile is carrying the flag here for legacy device owners.
The Oreo updates are confirmed for the T-Mobile variants of these devices. We do not know if it will be coming to other models.
