Vivo’s upcoming smartphone features Synaptics’ Clear ID In-Display fingerprint scanner
Today, Synaptics has announced that Vivo’s upcoming smartphone will be shipped with Clear ID in-display fingerprint reader. The company has been working on in-display fingerprint technology since late 2016. Earlier this week, the company had unveiled the world’s first optical in-display fingerprint scanner Clear ID FS9500.
Synaptics said it will be working with one of the top five smartphone manufacturing firms for the mass production of Clear ID. The company aims to ship around 70 million units of Clear ID sensor. Many other smartphone vendors are likely to adopt this new technology soon.
The Clear ID in-display fingerprint scanner is designed for bezel-less OLED displays. It has an optical scanner that features CMOS image sensor under the display glass. The scanner thickness is less than 0.7mm. When a user touches the OLED screen, the sensor scans the fingerprint and sends the information to the processor to verify. The technology has many security features such as adaptive fingerprint template matching, anti-spoofing technology, ECC authentication and AES encryption.
Vivo did not reveal which Vivo phone will be featuring the in-display fingerprint scanner by Synaptics. Hopefully, Vivo and Synaptics will showcase the smartphone with the in-screen fingerprint sensor next month at CES 2018.
